So how will it fare? With a base price that should come in under $30,000 the SRT-4 will put Dodge performance back into realistic access of young, virile working class males - the Viper's $125,600 is just a little out of reach for most. But for those who wouldn't mind spending a little more for something a little larger will Dodge offer an SRT Intrepid or maybe even an SRT Stratus anytime soon? While company officials won't comment on future product plans both seem like good ideas. Dealer politics aside DaimlerChrysler Canada would do well to follow the lead of its U.S. counterpart and badge Canada's Chrysler Intrepid with the ram nameplate, especially considering all the brand awareness its NASCAR runners are stirring up. Also, the midsize Stratus sedan and coupe would be a logical fit into the revitalized Canadian brand too. We'll just have to wait and see.
For now, there are plenty of reasons to get excited. Actually, about 215 to be exact. With its sensational looks, stunning performance and relatively low price the new Dodge SRT-4 just might be the hottest compact of 2003. Hopefully it won't sell out before it hits showrooms like the Viper.
