On top of the aforementioned $395 Appearance Package, $205 Towing Package, $595 rear spoiler, $195 food and beverage cooler/warmer and $890 cargo carrier, the GL can be ordered with a $150 universal garage door opener, $275 traction control system and $350 ultrasonic rear parking assist system, for a total of $38,615.

But that isn't all that's on the menu. Like I mentioned before the $38,520 GLS features a removable fold-flat stowable third row as standard equipment, plus standard traction control on the front-wheel drive model and the option of Versatrak all-wheel drive (that includes a fully independent suspension), with standard 4-wheel disc brakes - the GL comes with front disc and rear drum brakes only, but ABS is standard. Also, leather seats on the first two rows (the third row is vinyl), heated 8-way power front seats and dual zone climate control offer more style and comfort to all. A $420 AM/FM stereo with 6-disc in-dash CD player is optional on this model and on the top line $42,515 Premier Edition, that also adds gold exterior accents, chrome wheels and the option of a Generation III DVD entertainment system featuring video game input and 2 cordless headphones. Rather than go over each and every standard and optional feature, and there are many more, I'll let you peruse the GM Canada website on your own and get on with the rest of the review. Max out every option and the Silhouette will cost a hefty $48,785, not including taxes and freight.

While replete with features Oldsmobile's minivan isn't as performance oriented as some of its peers. Its 185-hp 3.4-L V6 delivers a decent amount of torque at 210 lb-ft, necessary considering the minivan's 1,790 kg (3,946 lb) to 1,956 kg (4,312 lb) curb weight (depending on options), but the engine's 3-valve heads and OHV architecture doesn't allow it to rev as freely as its more contemporary 4-valve DOHC competitors. Similarly its automatic transmission incorporates only four forward speeds compared to some of its rivals new 5-speed shifters, but that said it still manages an impressive 10.3 L/100 km combined city/highway fuel economy rating in base front-wheel drive trim.
