Its dials, gauges and switchgear were influenced by sports gear, large and easily legible, with its tachometer where it should be, dead center amid the four gauge cluster.

"Visually, we were striving for the look and feel of a sophisticated GT sports sedan. There's no clutter or diversions. The colors and materials were selected to give it richness and sporty flair," Vaughn added.

Details such as contrasting stitching on the seats and door panels make the G6 interior stand out from mere mock up concepts. It also features custom mesh flooring, moving up from the floor to cradle the rear bucket seats. A center console spans from front to back too, while those in the rear can also enjoy a separate AM/FM/CD audio system with headphones.

"The G6 reflects the continuity of the Solstice interior," said Rand. "It's a sporty new direction that's simple and straightforward."

To reiterate what I said in the beginning, Pontiac would do well to build the G6 under any nameplate. But with a new Grand Am needed in the near future, it only makes sense to clothe it in something close to G6 outer ware. Hopefully, it will stay true to form in the transformation.
