Its 4T65-E electronically controlled automatic transmission incorporates what GM calls tap-up-tap-down shifting, otherwise known as a sequentially shifting automatic gearbox or manu-matic. The G6 sports steering wheel controls and a console mounted shifter for actuating shifts.

To maximize performance in every weather condition all-wheel drive has been employed. It's a sophisticated system derived from GM's minivans and Pontiac Aztek and Buick Rendezvous crossover SUVs. Likewise its fully independent suspension comes from these vehicles, with the addition of ride-height adjustability for improved handling. Performance fans shouldn't be alarmed at the concept's utilitarian parts sources, as its critical chassis parts are inspired by the Corvette. Stamped steel panels, reinforced with structural steel tubing, combine with a 'backbone' transmission tunnel structure to form a rigid framework. All is covered with fiberglass, also like the 'Vette.

Delphi 4-piston calipers at all four corners clamp down on large 330 mm (13 in) rotors - ample for short stopping distances. Incidentally this braking system is identical to that used on last year's Pontiac Solstice concept. Both braking and handling should be further improved by a large contact patch, the result of a meaty wheel and tire package that consists of 20 x 8-inch billet aluminum alloys encircled with 235/40ZR20 rubber.
