Italy's Very Own Hummer built with GM Money
Thanks to three locking differentials and durable running gear, the Oltre can negotiate the worst terrain and most inhospitable conditions on the face of the planet. Have you hills and rocks to climb? Anything less than 40 percent (23 degree) vertical grade and 80 percent (46 degree) longitudinal grade can easily be conquered. Water's not a challenge

either: the Oltre can ford standing water that's up to 85 cm (33.5 in) deep, and with a snorkel and reworked intake, that nearly doubles to 1.5 metres (59.0 in) of fording capability. Mind you, more sensible tires than the show car's performance PZero Scorpions were used during testing.

It's unlikely that Fiat will ever put the Oltre into production. It's simply too costly, and with too small of a potential market. Instead, as automotive fans, we get to see Italy's industrial giant flex its muscle and show the world that it too can build off-roaders that can literally go anywhere, and do anything. And really, isn't it ironic that Fiat has built its own Hummer with GM's put option money? Ouch! That's got to hurt.
