Infiniti M35 and M45 look like reliable premium sedans
Infiniti M owners typically rave about an exceptional interior, high comfort levels, performance, and a great sounding engine. A high relative value factor and a long list of high-tech toys round out the positives. Comments like “Great Handling” and “Fun to Drive” come up often when checking owner reviews.

Owner complaints typically centre around fuel mileage, a ‘fussy’ Bluetooth interface, road noise and a stiff ride on some models. Some owners wish for stickier factory tires, and several report a ‘tinny’ sound from the roof when it rains, likely due to thin sound insulation.

On a test-drive, be sure to double check for proper operation of all electronic toys-- including the navigation system, Bluetooth interface, stereo system and intelligent key. These systems aren’t completely bulletproof, and can be expensive to repair or replace if they malfunction.

Be sure to check proper operation of all lights, too. If a xenon headlamp is burnt out, negotiate to have it replaced before purchase, as they aren’t cheap.

Ensure the vehicle’s steering feels tight, stable and precise on a variety of road surfaces. Some owners have reported a ‘moody’, ‘sloppy’ or ‘imprecise’ steering sensation that requires replacement of the steering rack. Having the M’s suspension checked by a mechanic for excessive wear of bushings or shock absorbers is a good idea, too.

As a note, avoid models with the four-wheel steering system where possible-- as the extra hardware will eventually require expensive maintenance and repair when it ages.

Ensure the instrument cluster operates and illuminates as expected, paying special attention to the fuel gauge, which could read inaccurately or fail outright. Note that this could be an intermittent problem, so be sure to ask the seller if they’ve noticed any issue.
