Infiniti M35 and M45 look like reliable premium sedans
Check the M’s brakes by applying moderate and full stopping power, noting any ‘sponginess’ to the pedal, or vibration/pulsation that could indicate worn-out or warped brake rotors. The car should stop quickly, smoothly and in a straight line when the brakes are applied hard, while offering a ‘stiff’ pedal feel.

Under acceleration with either engine, a hesitation or ‘lumpy’ feeling to the power delivery could be caused by a bad airflow sensor. This may also result in a fluctuating idle, so run the M with the air conditioner turned off and ensure it idles smoothly at about 750 RPM.

Finally, note that a loud metallic ‘banging’ sound some time after turning the M off is likely caused by contracting of exhaust heat shield as it cools, and is largely considered ‘normal’.

Ultimately, checks of the usual sources paint the M35 and M45 as a fairly worry-free car. No major or systematic issues related to the drivetrain were apparent, and all other common issues should be easy to diagnose and repair. Consider the used M35 and M45 alongside models like the BMW 5-Series and Audi A6.
