Based on the Colorado / Canyon ladder-frame platform, the Hummer H3 really is the very small brother of the H1 and the H2. Even though the H3 is 17 inches shorter and about 6 narrower and shorter in height, the H3's Vortec 3500 inline 5-cylinder engine has its work cut out for it. The big 5, which generates 220 hp and 225 lb/ft of torque, needs to move 1 900 kg from A to B. To most, the meager output sounds grossly insufficient. GM claims that the H3 will accelerate with the same amount of vigor as the V8 H2. The H3 is equipped with a new Borg-Warner two-speed electronically controlled full-time four-wheel-drive system with a low-range gear for real off-roading capability.

Auto123.com's impressions:

A smaller Hummer... Why would that be? Would it have to do with a $2 gallon of fuel? Projected severe declines in sales? Probably not. They are surely only catering to the growing demand for compact SUVs. What with the arrival of the International CXT, Hummer can no longer claim to be the King of the road.
