Such sight lines can also be important when approaching steep inclines or drops. Thanks to its high ground clearance of 23 cm (9.1 in)

and the jumbo-sized 33-inch tires that come with the Adventure Series off-road package, combined with dramatically short overhangs, the H3 can handle an impressive approach angle of 37.5 degrees and an equally impressive departure angle of 35.5 degrees. Compensating somewhat for the restrictive external sight lines is a pair of large, power adjustable side mirrors. If anything other than larger glass is missing in the H3's off-road kit, it's the hill decent control system available on a number of competing SUVs, such as the Toyota

4Runner, Nissan Pathfinder and Land Rover LR3.

Off-roading is where the strength lay in this unusual SUV. Nonetheless it was quite pleasing on paved surfaces as well. The vehicle's structural integrity is solid when combating rough city roads although its ride can become choppy- yet reasonably cushioned; bear in mind though, my tester was fortified with the off-road Adventure Series option package. Unless one's tactical planning includes serious off-roading, I would recommend choosing comfort over contusion by forgoing the 4x4 upgrade. Contributing to the H3's commendable nimbleness about town is its responsive, quick-ratio power steering and its turning radius of only 11.5 meters (37.9 ft) - characteristics one wouldn't immediately associate with a Hummer.
