More power and updated styling is on the menu for next year's Five Hundred, now known as the Taurus. Ford has decided to revive the Taurus name in the hopes of improving sales.

The Taurus will host Ford's 3.5L V6 engine, which will develop 260 horsepower and 245 lb-ft of torque coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The previously-offered CVT has been abandoned. Other mechanical changes include a revised suspension setup, which provides an improved ride.

The Taurus will now sport Ford's increasingly popular three-bar chrome grille etched into a redesigned front fascia, new wheels, exterior trim as well as clear-lens taillights. Ford Sync will also be available in the sedan, which is a voice-activated in-car communications and entertainment system developed in conjunction with Microsoft. The 2008 model will get more standard safety features, including Ford's AdvanceTrac stability-control system and a safety canopy system. It has recently been awarded a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS.

The new 2008 Ford Taurus will be arriving in showrooms in the course of this summer.
