You're a big boy now

At Toyota, there are now as many trucks in their lineup as there are cars. This scenario would've never been imagined 20 years ago. But, the customer is always right, and SUVs are selling more than ever, so the company is simply following the trend.

The problem in their range of trucks is, however, that the models are rubbing elbows after each redesign. The RAV4 was all-new for 2006 and got bigger; the little SUV was marginally smaller than the old Highlander. And to add insult to injury, it was much more powerful with its 269-hp V6.

The Highlander shares its platform with the Camry.

Now, it's the Highlander's turn for a makeover, and it's now making the 4Runner uncomfortable. But this time around, Toyota will tell you that a Highlander is a crossover while a 4Runner is an SUV. Ah, ok.

More space
Apart from the base Highlander Hybrid, all 2008 models get 7-passenger seating accommodations. Space for the occupants and cargo space has substantially improved. Comfort is pretty good on all seats.

Front and rear access is also better, and the 3rd-row bench is within easy reach. However, legroom back there is tight for adults.

The vehicle is about 100 mm longer, but is also wider and higher. As a result, over 400 litres of extra cargo space will fit in, once we fold down all the seats, of course. With the 3rd-row seatback in place, the available space is pretty small.

The interior is spacious, comfortable and well designed.
