A potential value leader
The limitation of four cogs in the autobox may contribute to the perceived lethargy. In their defence, the engine and transmission work smoothly together, with gear changes arriving by consensus at appropriate intervals.

I found the front seats to be remarkably comfortable. Plenty of side bolstering and lumbar support adds to the effectiveness of these perches.

Cabin holds a few tricks
The cabin design is conservative but attractive given the vehicle’s new price point. Controls are straightforward, smartly laidout and easy to operate.

I found the front seats to be remarkably comfortable. Plenty of side bolstering and lumbar support adds to the effectiveness of these perches. Legroom and headroom up front is also worthy of praise.

A couple of other noteworthy mentions include the use of a special seat fabric that resists soiling, staining and odours, and of course, Chrysler’s Chill Zone that keeps up to four tins of beverage cold.

Practicality in the cabin is maximized with plenty of cubbies and bottle holders along with fold-down rear seatbacks that reveal a broad trunk pass-through. A folding front passenger seatback allows the accommodation of long or bulky items to extend to the fore cab.

Safety less comprehensive than desired
The application of antilock four-wheel disc brakes continues as standard SXT and R/T equipment, and optional with SE. Yes, that’s good but unfortunately a vehicle stability program remains optional with SXT and SE, so I’ll withhold my applause.

I recommend paying the extra needed to receive Chrysler’s ESP (Electronic Stability Program), which is combined with all-speed traction control. This dual electronic safety net adds an important dimension of safety when confronting challenging Canadian climates.

On the plus side of the margin we find a comprehensive array of airbags that include front, side and side curtain airbags supplied as standard equipment – and that’s worthy of applause. So is the 5-star NHTSA rating for frontal impact crash testing.

Controls are straightforward, smartly laidout and easy to operate.
