Unsurprising thrills, surprising mileage for Camaro SS
Hitting the track? There’s even a ‘Competitive’ setting for the stability control system which helps keep the car in line when drivers push it hard. All traction-assisting electronics can be fully shut down too, should drivers wish for a little wheelspin. Or a lot of wheelspin.

Just watch that heavy right foot on public roads, or you’ll be emptying your wallet at local gas-stations and traffic-ticket agencies.

Sensible and fuel efficient, too
Despite being fully capable of tire-chirping gearshifts, on-command bursts of rampant acceleration and tire smoke, the Camaro SS is also surprisingly willing to play nice. Highway cruising comfort is very good thanks to a semi-soft ride, relatively spacious interior and noise levels that are kept nicely in check. The clutch, shifter and steering are all nice and easy to work, though they don’t feel totally isolated from the mechanical bits they control, either. Nice seats and stereo, too.

Best of all, highway cruising mileage pegs the tachometer at 2,000 RPM or less-- at which point the Camaro idles along lazily and turns in real-world cruising mileage of around 9L / 100km. That’s about the same as the average mid-sized family sedan-- meaning owners planning a road trip needn’t worry about draining their bank accounts at every gas station along the way.

It might have a giant V8, but the Camaro SS is very gentle on fuel when it’s not working hard. Take that, annoying greeny neighbour-- with your dirty looks, Prius and ‘smog-monster’ comments.

Ideal for day to day
Other sensibilities include a full suite of safety gear-- including all expected airbags, advanced braking technologies even GM’s ever-useful OnStar system. At the touch of a button, this can track down emergency help, find a gas station, call a tow truck or even guide you to the nearest tire shop once you’ve finished doing burnouts for friends, neighbours and co-workers.
