Climb on in!
The expression “climb aboard” makes perfect sense when slipping behind the wheel of a Ram 2500. Despite my 6-foot-2 frame, once I’d place one foot on the – essential – running board, the only way I was going to heave myself into the behemoth was by grabbing the handle built into the A pillar. It was either that or fetch a footstool!

Once behind the wheel you discover how vast the cabin truly is. My tester could comfortably accommodate 6 adults divided between the three-section front bench (40/20/40) and two-section rear bench (60/40). Both the seat backs and cushions fold away, making for varied cabin configurations. For example, the back of the front middle seat can double as an armrest while beneath the cushion lies a storage compartment. Under the foldaway cushions in back are rustproof and watertight storage bins in which you can drop wet, dirty or snow-covered implements.

Something looks familiar…
The truck’s familiar profile is instantly recognizable. However, the Ram 2500 looks a lot more muscular than a 1500. Its higher hood and large, distinctive grille set it apart. The 2010 version also features protective trim covering the cargo box edges.

The photos speak for themselves. Our tester had a long box, though a short one is also offered. With the four-door cab and 8-foot, 2-inch box, this baby required two full parking spaces. In fact, lower the tailgate and you can accommodate a smart!

The tailgate uses a new torsion bar mechanism that makes opening it – and especially closing it – a lot easier. Good thing too, as it folds down one metre above the ground and is particularly heavy. The tailgate can also be locked. This little innovation was borrowed from Ford and should make life harder for those honest citizens looking to “borrow” your tailgate “indefinitely” to replace another…
