Honda Spirit is Back

I expected a choppy, hard ride given the size of the CR-Z and its “sports car” persona, but that was not the case. I found taut underpinnings that remained sufficiently compliant to keep the ride from becoming uncomfortable during long-distance driving.

Whether taking on back-road twisties or just running to the local market, the CR-Z allows one to select the desired performance setting.

Economy, Normal, Sport

At the push of a button, the driver can alter the vehicle’s computer management of various systems to emphasize Economy, Normal or Sport driving. Each setting modifies shift mapping, steering response and other functions to maximize the CR-Z potential in the given mode.

Wrapping up First Impressions
The CR-Z is definitely a fun vehicle. I enjoyed its short throw, manual gearbox and smooth clutch operation. As I said to my driving partner, “this is not a tinny-feeling compact.” The CR-Z’s cabin is nicely finished with materials that convey a sense of quality and its body structure is tight and rattle-free.

I can’t say that I’m a fan of the CR-Z’s instrument panel, but the 3D effect accompanying the primary gauges was cool.

In Canada, the CR-Z will only be available in a single trim level, which includes most goodies sought after today except navigation. As well, there will only be three colour choices: while, silver and blue. Look for the CR-Z in Honda showrooms August 10th with a base price of $23,490 with the 6-speed and $24,290 with the CVT, which incidentally will precede the US market by several weeks. Honda spirit’s back—go Canada!
