The resulting intake manifold was so pretty, engineers didn’t want to cover it up. They came up with a partial cover that actually “frames” the intake runners, but hides the injectors and fuel rails, which always looks like unattractive plumbing.

Piston-cooling jets were also incorporated for faster warm-up on cold starts, and better lubrication under hard running.

We heard and watched a short video of the new engine on a dynamometer, revving to 7,000 rpm. It sounded fantastic, and Harrison told us, “it can sing like that all day.”

Total output is 412 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque.

Superior Fuel Economy
The lightweight powertrain aids fuel economy, as does the adoption of electric power steering (EPAS), fuel shut off during deceleration, and the new rear decklid seal (for enhanced aerodynamics).

The six-speed automatic GT is said to return 25 mpg highway and 17 city. While the six-speed manual is said to return 24 mpg highway and 16 city. (US gallons).)

Other New GT bits
The 2011 GT also features an enhanced rear lower control arm and stiffened rear stabilizer bar.

A Brembo brake package is also new; it features 14-inch vented front discs from the GT500, unique alloy wheels, and summer performance tires.

Canadian Content
The new engine will be built in the Essex Engine Plant, in Windsor, Ontario.
