The German carmaker known for their high-performance sportscars has just unveiled the next generation of their unique Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), the Cayenne. Designed to excel both on the road and off, this mud-ready Porsche has built its reputation around combining a high-performance motoring experience with proven all-terrain capabilities.

The currently-available Cayenne has been facelifted, though its platform is getting on in age. Accordingly, Porsche has just announced that the next-generation Cayenne will hit showrooms in the near future-- bringing with it a new look, new powertrain technology and new features.

The main premise of the new Cayenne? “More From Less”. According to the automaker, the next-generation Cayenne will offer improved performance and reduced fuel consumption across the model range. This comes, in part, thanks to a new lightweight design concept, optimization of numerous on-board systems and a new AWD system.

A supercharged Cayenne S Hybrid model will be available with a 380 horsepower gas-electric drive system. Enthusiasts can rest assured that the 500-horsepower [linka rtid="128427"]Cayenne Turbo[/link] will also carry on, as will the V8-powered Cayenne ‘S’. A new 3.6 litre V6 will start the Cayenne’s powertrain lineup with 300 horsepower.

Porsche says the new Cayenne looks more compact than the outgoing model, though it’s actually stretched slightly. Specifically, it’s 48 mm longer overall, while the wheelbase has increased by some 40 mm for extra interior room. Despite the added size, the new Cayenne’s lighter weight helps increase performance and fuel efficiency.

The Porsche Cayenne ‘S’ and Cayenne Turbo go on sale this July, and the V6-powered Cayenne and Cayenne S Hybrid will be available this fall.
