GM has revealed the heavily redesigned 2012 Colorado, described as the most important mid-size pickup in the automaker’s history.

GM says it will be the most refined and potent truck it has ever produced.

For the Thai market the Colorado will be powered by 2.5- and 2.8-litre Duramax diesel engines. The former generates 150 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque while the latter punches out 180 hp and 346 lb-ft with the optional five-speed automatic transmission.

Barring a major turnaround, the diesel engines should be retired from the US and Canadian markets, making room for various gas powerplants.

LS, LT and LTZ variants will be available, with such standard equipment as ABS, traction control and several electronic braking aids.

Aesthetically speaking, the 2012 Colorado is much more in-your-face than its predecessor and includes various visual refinements such as LED lights (optional).

The contemporary cabin will have a rich quality to it thanks to a smattering of chrome accents. Emphasis has also been put on storage, with the regular cab versions including 16 storage spaces. That number jumps to 19 for the extended cab and 30 for the crew cab.
