Since the launch of the 2012 Chevrolet Colorado in Thailand, just about every pickup truck enthusiast had been dying to find out if and when the model would land in North America.

Now, we know the answer.

General Motors ended the suspense over the weekend by announcing that a version of the all-new Colorado will be sold in Canada and the United States.

Just don't hold your breath for further details. The only sure thing for now is that production will take place south of the border. The facility, release date, trim levels and prices will all be disclosed at a later time.

What about the engine?

In Thailand, the Colorado will offer gasoline and diesel engines, including new 2.5L and 2.8L turbodiesel variants. However, based on GM's history, expect only the gasoline powerplants to make it to our shores.

Still, the automaker could use the redesigned midsize pickup to meet stricter fuel economy standards and take people by surprise with the introduction of diesels.
