Edition 1 wrapped-up
Mercedes-Benz has taken the once conservative SLK to a new level with the 2012 version.
This is a true sports car that’s easier to live with than many other high-strung roadsters. It does have some shortcomings, though, in terms of cargo capacity and storage. With the roof stowed under the trunk lid, there’s fairly limited space available for luggage and you won’t find a plethora nooks and crannies in the cabin for ingesting sundry items.
Despite the absence of storage space, which befuddles most compact roadsters, the new SLK 350 Edition 1 is a fine example of German engineering and first class-build quality. Edition 1 isn’t cheap though. It adds $10K to the $66,500 base SLK 350 sticker, for a total of $76,500.
