The all-new BMW 225xe and 330xe are set to make their European debut as plug-in hybrid versions of the 2 Series and 3 Series, respectively. North American availability has yet to be announced, however.
BMW 225xe
Based on the 2 Series Active Tourer, the BMW 225xe is equipped with a 3-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine rated at 136 horsepower, as well as an electric motor producing 88 horsepower. Combined output amounts to 224 horsepower.
In hybrid mode, this car accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 202 km/h. In full EV mode, the limit is 125 km/h with a range of 41 kilometres. Charging takes 2.25-3.25 hours depending on the power source.
BMW 330xe
Here we have a 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine rated at 184 horsepower that combines with an electric motor producing 88 horsepower for a total system output of 252 horsepower.
In hybrid mode, the BMW 330xe sprints from 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 225 km/h. In full EV mode, the limit is 120 km/h with a range of 40 kilometres. Charging times are roughly the same as the 225xe’s.
We’ll definitely keep a close eye on these two models in anticipation of a possible North American launch.
