BMW has just unveiled the all-new 330e iPerformance, a plug-in hybrid sports sedan that will go on sale in the U.S. this summer with a starting price of $44,695. Will it be available in Canada, too? This information has yet to be confirmed.

A highly promising combination of sporty driving and great fuel economy, the BMW 330e iPerformance uses a 180-horsepower TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine and 87-horsepower electric motor. The latter draws energy from a 7.6 kWh lithium-ion battery. Net total output is rated at 248 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, allowing 0-60 mph (96 km/h) sprints in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 140 mph (225 km/h).

Drivers of the BMW 330e iPerformance should expect an EV range of about 14 miles (22 kilometres) in MAX eDRIVE mode. There’s also a SAVE BATTERY mode you can activate to use the combustion engine as a generator when the battery charge drops below 50%. On the other hand, BMW explains that if over 50% percent of battery charge remains, the charge level is “frozen” for a later use.
