One year after the launch of the Karma Concept, Fisker will unveil the production model at the 2009 NAIAS, in Detroit.

The revolutionary Karma becomes the world's first premium sports sedan to use a hybrid powertrain. Performance promises to be outstanding with a 260-horsepower, 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine mated to 22.6-kW lithium-ion battery. Total output exceeds 400 horsepower (408) while accelerations from 0 to 100 km/h are completed in 5.8 seconds.

Top speed is rated at 201 km/h. The Quantum-designed Q-DRIVE battery system allows a range of slightly over 80 kilometers in fully electric mode. Fisker claims that the Karma can average 2.35 L/100 km in the right conditions.

Every asset of the concept has been kept intact, starting with the aluminum/composite body structure and aluminum chassis. The production Karma also retains the massive 22-inch wheels. As for changes, the list includes a wider front grille, a new exhaust system as well as the addition of true B pillars. The interior won't be disclosed until the Detroit show in January.

Deliveries of the Fisker Karma are scheduled to begin in November 2009, with prices starting at $87,900US. Unfortunately for potential new buyers, all the units to be manufactured until mid-2010 have already found takers.
