Montreal – From September 20 to 24, 2010, the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) will celebrate the eighth edition of In Town without my Car! by prolonging the event the whole week! On this occasion, Montrealers are encouraged to experience active and public transit for five consecutive days. Many of them may acquire a taste for it, if they haven’t already.
Encouraged by seven successful editions, the AMT will be hosting a wide array of activities during the event, from conferences to shows at the Complexe Desjardins. The AMT hopes to reassert the advantages of using public transit, as well as breathe new life into an event in which tens of thousands of people take part each year. And because they aren’t completely reinventing a winning formula, on September 22, pedestrians and cyclists will once again have access to one of the largest car-free perimeters among the 2,000 plus cities hosting similar events around the world. This year, visitors can relax in the bucolic setting of a major urban park.
Each day of the week-long event will focus on a different theme designed to promote awareness about the advantages of a more widespread use of active and public transit. Emphasis will alternately be put on the environment, health and sports, active and public transit, cycling as well as alternative vehicles and innovative technologies from Monday to Friday, starting on September 20.
Depending on the day, several round tables, workshops, information booths and exhibits will allow visitors to discover the myriad alternatives to solo motoring that are at our disposal in 2010. We’ll see you at the Complexe Desjardins from September 20 to 24 and in the great outdoors on September 22 – in the heart of downtown Montreal!
