The new Lancer Sportback is the 5-door variant of the Lancer sedan, and should reach showrooms within the next weeks.

The Sportback GTS carries a base price of $23,498, and is powered by a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder engine that develops 168 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque. It's available with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic with paddle shifters that adds $1,300 to the price. A Sun and Sound Leather Package costs $2,700 and includes a 650-watt sound system, leather seats, keyless start and a power sunroof.

The all-wheel drive Sportback Ralliart costs $33,498 and comes with a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine that produces 237 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. The only transmission choice is the Lancer Evolution's 6-speed, dual-clutch automated transmission. A $5,000 Premium Package adds a navigation system with hard disc music server, SIRIUS satellite radio, a power sunroof, Recaro seats with leather patchwork, keyless start, Bluetooth connectivity and rain-sensing wipers.

The Sportback models are $500 more expensive than their 4-door counterparts.
