Torque steer enthusiasts may commence rejoicing. Mazda has just announced that they'll debut two new Mazda3 variants at the 2009 Geneva International Motor Show next month- and that one of them is the new Mazdaspeed3.

This second generation of the popular performance compact will be on display in its European specification. The 3's new styling language is applied with a high-performance interpretation, including a large vent in the hood. Mazda says the new model will carry forward with an updated version of the MZR 2.3 liter turbo engine that's now cleaner and more efficient.

Also on display will be the new Mazda3 i-stop-- an eco-conscious variant of the 3 that self-stops the engine when appropriate to save fuel. Additionally, the i-stop model features the brand's MZR 2.0 DISI (Direct Injection Spark Ignition) engine, which is known for its efficiency. Owners can expect fuel savings in the range of about 12 percent.

Mazda3 Program Manager, Yoshiyuki Maeda, said "These two models add extra value to an all-new Mazda3 lineup that has already shown strong appeal. The new Mazda3 series takes a significant step ahead in both the realms of driving performance and environmental technology to lead the way toward a new generation of motoring."
