Subaru's highly anticipated Legacy Concept took the stage for its world debut at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) today. Celebrating two decades of the Legacy Sedan, Subaru officials say that the concept is indicative of the future direction of the car's design.

Most chatter around the Legacy Concept was in regards the new grille treatment that identifies the model instantly as a Legacy while delivering a more powerful and muscular face. Headlight projectors are aligned vertically, and LED running lights set things off with a high-tech, cybernetic look. A sculpted and raised hood and large front bumper vents suggest some potency in the engine room, and the small mirrors and wide fenders give the concept a sleek and stable look.

Apparently there's a 3.6 liter boxer engine under the hood, boasting a low centre of gravity for improved handling and sharpness. The concept also features a cabin that embodies 'high definition with a feeling of comfort' according to Subaru. Use your imagination.

The Legacy has sold over 3.6 million units since launching back in 1989. The next Legacy model, which may look to some degree like what we've seen here, could be on sale later this year.
