Chrysler Group LLC President and CEO Sergio Marchionne said Chrysler's next-generation minivan and a crossover built on the same platform will both have all-wheel drive.

The Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan were set to reach the end of their cycle in 2014 when whole new designs are scheduled. However, Marchionne is speeding up the timetable to make the American automaker ''more competitive''.

The two vehicles will be assembled in Windsor, Ontario and all signs point to a production debut in 2013 when the agreement to manufacture the Volkswagen Routan expires.

Chrysler used to offer minivans with all-wheel drive up to 2004, but the system was discontinued to make way for Stow 'n Go seats that fold into the floor.

Rumours suggest that Windsor could also be home to the ''TR Ram Life Style Truck'', a new pickup that would rival the Honda Ridgeline.
