Create your own personal car infotainment system with your iPhone
These days, you can control just about anything with your iPhone/Android. Companies are marketing one gadget after another for the smart phone, and there are lots more on the way. In fact, with your help via the Kickstarter website, the Devium Dash could see the light of day (I’ll give you the details in a minute).

A Lockheed Martin engineer founded Devium in Colorado in 2010, with the idea of turning smart phones into infotainment systems for the car. Paul Lizer, the man in question, dubbed it “Dash.”

For iPhone addicts, the Dash is the ultimate successor to the standard car stereo. Featuring just a volume knob, it allows you to put the multiple functions of your phone to safe and effective use while you drive.

The double DIN unit will completely replace your car’s stereo system. The Dash features interchangeable magnetic faceplates in which you plunk the phone. The faceplates currently only support the iPhone 4 and 4S, but Devium is designing ones for Android and Windows Mobile phones as we speak. The interchangeable faceplates are available in black, red, blue or white.

Did someone say infotainment?
As I mentioned earlier, snap your iPhone in and the Dash comes to life as your very own private infotainment system. Devium’s gizmo will not only recharge your iPhone, but coupled with the plethora of apps available in the App Store, it’ll allow you to use the GPS, send text messages, listen to the radio, and much more.

Devium also came up with an application called Dashboard that serves as a hub for your most frequently used apps. To see how the Devium Dash works, check out Paul Lizer’s video:
