The reigning world champion set the best time of each free practice session, ahead of the McLarens.
Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel was on top at the end of the morning session, in front of his teammate Mark Webber and two seconds ahead of both McLarens.
Nick Heidfeld only completed five laps with his Lotus Renault GP during this session. He hit the wall and damaged the front end of his car. He nevertheless set the fifth best time.
Several reserve drivers were in action this Friday morning. Daniele Ricciardo at Toro Rosso, taking the seat of Jaime Alguersuari. Nico Hülkenberg took the place of Adrian Sutil at Force India and Luiz Razia was in the Team Lotus car instead of Jarno Trulli.
Same as what happenened last week in Malaysia, the second practice session more intense between the two McLaren drivers and Sebastian Vettel in his Red Bull RB7.
Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) and Felipe Massa (Ferrari) set the best time at one point during this session. At the end, Vettel beat them all and set the best time overall.
The two McLarens were really close to the Red bUll, with Lewis Hamilton in second place ahead of Jenson Button. Nico Rosberg finished in fourth, only 8 thousands of second behind Jenson Button.
Nick Heidfeld repeated his morning crash, damaging again the front of his Lotus Renault.
Paul di Resta didn't get on track this afternoon with his Force India and Vitantonio Liuzzi only completed three laps with his Hispania-Cosworth, but he is ahead of the two Marussia Virgins.
