Driven by a need for greater efficiency, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles appears to be close to launching a new 2.0L turbo engine nicknamed “Hurricane” that could produce nearly 300 horsepower, according to various reports.

This is different from the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with 276 horsepower that will debut in the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan, apparently. Sources say we’ll see the new Hurricane first in the next-generation Jeep Wrangler, which is also set to receive a new 8-speed automatic transmission.

Look for an aluminum block, direct injection, variable valve timing, and a twin-scroll turbocharger. We’ll post further details as they become available.
