Largest outdoor auto show a valuable learning experience and event for students, the public and carmakers
Speaking of sporty all-wheel-drives, the Suzuki tent featured products from the Japanese company's lineup- like the fun-loving little SX4, the award-winning Grand-Vitara SUV, and a lineup of ATV's as well. After all, Suzuki builds lifestyle products for adventurous consumers, and their road going vehicles only tell half the story.

Suzuki's bold new SX4 Sedan.

For extremely sporty all wheel drive, a trip to the Mitsubishi tent was in order to check out their upcoming Evolution X turbocharged performance car which goes on sale soon. Although it wasn't presented at the show, a large and dangerous looking crate offered a sneak peek for the car's fans. One thing is for sure: this new Evo X is going to be mean.

From mean to green, many automakers were showcasing their latest environmentally responsible offerings, with the latest hybrids and diesel models from Toyota, General Motors, Jeep, Mercedes and Ford on display. In today's increasingly green-friendly state of mind, visitors to the show could get up close and personal with their eco-mobile of choice and ask all the questions they liked.

One important green car is set for release in the very new future. It's the new Jetta TDI- on display in the Volkswagen tent in a pre-production wagon configuration. Team VW member Matt Bird proudly showed the car to visitors. "It's a shame the TDI had to go" he said. "But it's coming back with this new engine, and its going to be even better."

I asked Matt why he chose to the CAI program at Georgian, and more particularly, why he chose to work for Team VW at the autoshow. "I really want to get into corporate management for a carmaker" he replied.

"Working here in this autoshow is a great opportunity for me to work with a manufacturer that I love. It looks great on a resume, and may wind up getting me a co-op." Matt is an avid VW enthusiast, and his passion and excitement for their products was apparent.

It's all part of the atmosphere created by the students, and it permeates the show every year. As evidenced by the energetic and enthusiastic students, if you or someone you know is looking for a career with cars in a big way, this is a school you need to check out.
