General Motors announced that the 2012 Chevrolet Volt and Equinox will be the first vehicles to get the new MyLink in-car infotainment system before it expands to other models in the Chevy lineup over the next 18 months.

MyLink will team up with OnStar – not replace it – and directly rival Ford's SYNC, Hyundai's Blue Link and others. It retains all the capabilities of today’s entertainment units, including AM/FM/XM tuners, CD player with MP3 playback, auxiliary and USB inputs while incorporating a number of new features.

First of all, users can control MyLink through a seven-inch, high-resolution, full-colour touch screen display. To help prevent possible distractions behind the wheel, the system also allows wireless control of smartphones, mobile devices and music collections through voice commands.

Furthermore, MyLink integrates online services like Pandora and SmartRadio to generate customized music programs while adding flash memory capability to its USB device connections.

In addition to OnStar and MyLink, future Chevrolet owners will be able to take advantage of the Powermat charging system, eliminating the need for charging cords.
