Romain Grosjean (DAMS) inherits victory in race 1 in Valencia after Addax drivers, Charles Pic and Giedo van der Garde, were victims of various issues.

Polesitter Charles Pic could not move from the pre grid, and his car was pushed into the pits. The Frenchman eventually started from the boxes after the field.

His teammate Giedo van der Garde inherited first position and pulled away in front in the first laps. But the Dutchman had a drive-through penalty for ignoring yellow flags, and went back on track in 4th position.

Van der Garde eventually moved up to 2nd after two great battles with Dani Clos, then Davide Valsecchi.

The nightmare continued for Jules Bianchi however. He had to retire after an accident with Marcus Ericsson in the very first corner. This brought the safety car out for several laps.
