Indy 500: Scott Dixon beats Alex Tagliani in last practice session

New Zealander Scott Dixon set the best time around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the final Carburation Day practice session ahead of Sunday's Indianapolis 500.

Dixon, driving for the Target Ganassi team set a best speed of 225.474 mph.

Pole sitter Alex Tagliani of Montreal, Canada put in a quick lap at 224.739 mph. Tagliani drives for the small Sam Schmidt Motorsports outfit.

Dixon’s teammate, last year’s Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti was third at 224.658 mph.

AJ Foyt Racing had a good one-hour session, with Vitor Meira fourth and his one-off team-mate Ryan Hunter-Reay taking seventh.

Dan Wheldon was fifth ahead of Buddy Rice, Hunter-Reay (under the 224-mph mark), Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves (in the fastest Penske car) and John Andretti.
