Mitsubishi is announcing a new version of the Galant Fortis. Better known in Canada as the Lancer, this compact sedan will now be available in RALLIART trim.

The Galant Fortis RALLIART bridges the gap between the GTS and Evolution models. Under its aluminum hood is a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 237 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 253 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm. Mitsubishi tweaked the fifth and sixth gear ratios of the twin-clutch Sport Shift Transmission (SST), also used by the Evolution X, in order to improve fuel economy.

Power is distributed by a permanent all-wheel-drive system with limited-slip front and rear differentials as well as an active center differential. The RALLIART also features Active Stability Control (ASC) and antilock brakes (ABS). Three dynamic modes are available: TARMAC, for dry pavement, GRAVEL, both for dirt roads and snow-covered surfaces, and ICE.

In terms of design, a new front bumper has been specifically designed for the RALLIART in order to maximize engine cooling and give the car a more intimidating look. The rear bumper, meanwhile, integrates dual exhaust tips and improves airflow management, thereby increasing stability at high speed. A functional hood scoop brings fresh air to the turbo, while two smaller intakes further cool the engine. Finally, bolstered sports seats and aluminum pedals are found inside.

The Mitsubishi Galant Fortis RALLIART is on sale in Japan. The company has yet to announce marketing plans for Canada.
