Fifty-eight-year-old Mario Theissen will leave his position as head of motorsport management of BMW, to be replaced by former Toyota F1’s man Jens Marquardt.

Marquard will join Theissen on January 1st, and Theissen will officially leave on June 30th.

Jens Marquardt worked for Ilmor on the development of F1 and CART series’ engines before joining the Toyota F1 effort in 2000.

Marquardt was still an employee of Toyota Motosport.

Theissen’s departure is unveiled just a few weeks following the announcement of BMW’s return to the DTM series in 2012.
