Further luxury touches and practical new features: that's what's in store for the 2008 Range Rover.
Four-zone air conditioning will be introduced, which will allow back-seat passengers to control their own heating and ventilation settings. Also new is what Land Rover calls 'climate control' windscreen and side glass, which cuts infrared heat transmissions in the vehicle, which reduces the heat buildup, and a welcome feature for those who hate stepping into a hot, leather-clad cockpit in summer.
The rear-seat armrest has been redesigned to provide extra storage space, and includes a dedicated location for the rear entertainment system's remote control. The centre console and HVAC panel get more leather trim, and there are now seven different wood trim choices available (all from sustainable forests, Land Rover points out). Some models will also get a wooden shift knob.
Among other changes, graphics on the touch-screen interface and instruments will be revised, and a new interior color will be available, called 'Storm'.
On the outside, two new colors will be offered: Alaska White and Lucerne Green, as well as more 'designer's choice' packages, which is basically interior/exterior combinations. Polished 20-inch alloy wheels round out the changes.
Worldwide sales of the Range Rover are increasing, thanks to the introduction of Land Rover's TDV8 engine. The 32-valve, 3.6-liter twin-turbo diesel V8 produces 272 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque at a low 2,000 rpm. Combined average fuel economy is 11.3 L/100 km. Sadly, this engine is not yet available in the Canadian market.
