On my second day of retirement which happened to also be my birthday (49th - right!), I took 'the bride' out to the Peace Portal Driving Range in South Surrey, BC. She has a charity golf tournament next week and hasn't played in over 4 years, (I wonder if my job was the cause). Two sets of clubs barely made a dent in the back of the spacious MDX; in fact, you could put a whole surveillance team back there with the available third row seat. The drive out to the country, the stop in White Rock for a late lunch, just confirmed this is a "very nice ride".

The front seat felt like the cockpit of an F18 with all the gauges and dials. I rely on the basics. The middle armrest hid a nice big hinged compartment. For me, it had to be at just the right height so my right hand could jump to flick on the red and blue lights, switch radio channels, or take a sip of latte (it is Vancouver you know). Of course, my days of lights and sirens are officially behind me now.

The MDX centre console opens like my mother's liquor cabinet. Whoever is riding in the shotgun seat can open their half without bothering the driver- me. Smart engineering. It took a minute to find the cup holders hidden under the sliding cover. More smart thinking. When not in use, I can actually stack some stuff on it!

Gail found a nice hidden compartment in the centre console beside her left ankle. This would be a good place to hide the portable radio, binoculars, and extra ammo when on a stake out. For overhead views and checking out roof tops I would have preferred to a larger sunroof.

The navigation system was one of the best I have ever used. The inner dial on the master control allowed me to switch from being 'up close and personal' to the satellite view. It was very clear, easy to use and there was a nice change in colour when things went dark entering the George Massey Tunnel. Also, having the street name permanently displayed at the bottom of the screen was a nice design touch.
