The Chevrolet Impala, ever a popular choice for fleet operators, will be lightly tweaked for 2012 before the complete overhaul planned for 2013, complete with a move to a new assembly plant. For this vintage, the main changes concern the power train.

As the rumours mentioned, it will feature a new 3.6-litre, direct injection V6 with variable valve timing and FlexFuel E85 compatibility, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission for even greater fuel efficiency.

The tech specs haven’t been revealed, but the source who had previously announced the changes predicted output of 302 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. For the moment, fuel consumption numbers are still a mystery.

Sixteen-inch wheels will now be standard and the grille will be updated, but the rest of the Impala will essentially remain the same.
