Definite power
The Maserati GranTurismo Convertible shares its 4.7-litre V8 with the GranTurismo S coupe and Quattroporte Sport GT S sedan. This mighty engine sends 440 horsepower to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission with manual mode and paddle shifters on the steering wheel, propelling the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and from 70 to 120 km/h in just 4.2.
"Our ZF transmission is particularly lightweight and so smooth, contributing to the level of refinement this sports car strives to achieve," says the PR manager.
According to him, this piece of equipment has a lot to do with the current success of the GranTurismo. The first autobox made available by Maserati was the Ferrari-sourced Cambiocorsa (as found on the 2004 GranSport, for instance). It proved a sporty unit for sure, but its operation hardly felt seamless… and comfortable for passengers.
Optimism for 2010
In 2008, Maserati built a record number of cars with a total of about 7,500. Naturally, production suffered in 2009 as a result of the global economic downturn — only 5,000 units or so were made.
"Last month, our year-to-year sales were up 76 percent, which allows us to make bullish forecasts for 2010," concludes Mr. Ehoodin.
