According to increasingly persistent online rumours, GM is toying with the idea of renaming the Chevy Aveo Sonic, just in time for the vehicle’s revamping.
Joel Ewniack, GM’s new marketing director, supposedly came to the conclusion that the Aveo’s image is too negative and that would have prompted the automaker to reserve the name “Sonic” on October 5, 2010, according to documents published by the U.S. Trademark Records.
The Aveo would remain under the Chevrolet banner, and its new moniker would be used worldwide. The redesigned model is set to be unveiled on the 2011 auto show circuit. We’ll find out then if the little car will be changing just its name or will also be offering better value, which has been cruelly lacking since its introduction back in 2004.
