The Draw:
This generation Ram was loved for its great looks, HEMI firepower and overall value. Look for MDS cylinder deactivation on the HEMI V8 on models from 2006 and on. Selection and special-edition models were abundant. Look for a “Mega Cab” if you want an interior that doubles as a rolling living rom. Owners also loved up-level features like premium audio implements, heated leather, a sunroof, and more. A tough and rugged feel to the truck rounded out the package.

The Common Issues:
Because of the possibility of some frustrating and difficult-to-diagnose electronic issues, test drivers are advised to double and triple check that all interior electronics work as expected, and that no check engine lights are illuminated. Rough shifting from the transmission and an unsteady, lumpy idle could be a sign of an electronic problem, too. Check earlier models for cracked dashboards and listen to the rear end for a clicking, chattering sound that could signal a bad differential. Many owners reported poor durability from the factory-installed tires and brakes, so be sure to check these, too. If you’re unsure of the candidate’s service history or former life, budget for a full fluid change to be safe.
