Mikko Hirvonen (Ford Fiesta S2000) clinched victory in rally Montecarlo, the first round of the Intercontinental Rally Championship.
The new Fiesta S2000 took victory for his first race, after it made its public appearance in Scotland rally in 2009, as a “0” car. Hirvonen led Montecarlo rally from the beginning to the finish line, and even finished ahead of Juho Hanninen et Nicolas Vouilloz’s Skoda Fabia. LMS driver Stéphane Sarrazin took 4th position in his Peugeot 2007. Hirvonen’s main rival in the race was another WRC driver, frenchman Sébastien Ogier (Peugeot 207), who was forced to retire on Friday evening while he was in second position. 2009 IRC champion Kris Meeke (Peugeot 207) retired in Day 1 after an accident. The next IRC round will take place in Curitiba, Brazil, beside WTCC first round, on March 4th to 6th. Montecarlo rally, final standing: 1. Mikko Hirvonen Ford in 4h32m58.5s 2.
