Will Power (Penske) dominated the first day of activity on the streets of St Petersburg by finishing way on top after both practice sessions that were held today.
In the morning, series champion Dario Franchitti ended up second for Ganassi, just 0.032 seconds behind Power but ended up crashing into the tyres at Turn 4 just after the halfway point of the afternoon’s session. Graham Rahal, who had an offer from Sarah Fisher to drive this week-end, had a promising first official appearance as he finished 11th in the morning while finishing the day 10th. The morning passed without major incident. Andretti Autosport's Danica Patrick and KV's EJ Viso both lost a little track time with throttle and gearbox issues respectively. Franchitti was not the only one to cause stoppages as he was joined by Dale Coyne Racing's Milka Duno (stopping on course at Turn 8) and KV's third driver Mario Moraes, who spun out of the final chicane on his first lap. FAZZT Racing’s Alex Tagliani got things smoother at the end of the day, finishing 11th after clocking the 19th fastest time earlier.
