Organisers of the Rocky Mountain Rally run last weekend in Alberta were wishing for dry roads and easy going weather. They were offered the exact opposite with roads covered by up to 30cm of snow mixed with mud and water. They were even forced to redo Saturday’s schedule on the spot when it turns out some roads were simply impassable.
Despite all of this weather drama, Antoine L’Estage and codriver Nathalie Richard took their first CRC win of the season thanks to a choice of mud-specification tyres from Yokohama. Their rivals Pat Richard and Alan Ockwell got less lucky with their ice-specification tyres and were unable to challenge the 2-minutes gap winners. Bruno Carré and Yvan Joyal also confirmed the importance of the good choice of tyres by finishing third on snow tires. They remain the Championship leaders as the series will head next to the Province of Quebec for next Rallye Baie Des Chaleurs in New Richmond. Mike Goodwin and Martin Burnley took the Production GT win on board of their Subaru Impreza WRX ad brothers Jan and Jodi Zedril (Mitsubishi Lancer ES) took the two-wheel-drive win.
