Buick LaCrosse Concept - Taking Crossovers to New Lengths

Presence. No matter whether you like Buick's radical LaCrosse concept or not, you can't deny its presence. It is gracefully proportioned, incorporates one of the widest, deepest gaping chrome grilles in existence and offers passenger and cargo flexibility current cars can only dream about.

But of course, it's a dream car after all. Buick has a long heritage of concept cars that go way back to GM's Motorama days, but none that combined the comfort of a luxurious 5-place sedan with an easily converted pickup-style cargo carrier.

Buick General Manager Roger W. Adams characterized the LaCrosse as the latest evolution of the classic American luxury sedan. "Our customer research has identified a desire for added functions," commented Adams. "But Buick owners aren't interested in sacrificing room, comfort or style. So we're striving to give them the best of both worlds. LaCrosse is a realistic vision of a potential future Buick flagship vehicle with all of the comfort of a Buick and much of the functionality of a pickup."

Potentially a future Buick? That would be nice but don't hold your breath. For now we'll just have to enjoy its advanced features and elegant exterior design from afar. Buick recalls its 1949 Roadmaster in its "sweepspear" design, highlighting an altogether modern yet characteristically retrospect fender swelling side profile. Its 1938 Buick Y-job style vertical-bar grille pays homage to earlier days too, as do its front fender "portholes" and cross-car rear lighting - albeit the latter is more 1980s in style.
