2002 Nissan Frontier - A New Interior and a New Long-Bed Box

With the advent of four-door, five-passenger functionality, expressive styling and luxury appointments, combined with the load hauling flexibility of a cargo box, pick-up trucks are not only maintaining their popular position in the marketplace, but luring in SUV buyers as well. Last year an edgy redesign and improved performance placed the Nissan Frontier at the front of the pack, and high on the list of trend-setting truckers.

Just take a look at the SC Crew Cab's muscular body. Framing hefty 5-spoke alloy wheels, bulging fender flares appear riveted in place while thick steel-tube side-steps and roof rack enwrap the cab - very industrial. While its tough-as-nails, audacious styling isn't for everyone, those looking to separate themselves from the mundane can now consider a pick-up truck.

Still, styling is only part of the package. For 2002, a 1,895 mm (74.6-inch) long-bed box increases cargo capacity, beneficial to those who actually use their truck for work or serious play, such as carrying an ATV, motorbike or camper. Heavy loads like these shouldn't be too much of a strain for the base 143-hp, 2.4-L 4-cylinder engine, capable of towing up to 1,455 kg (3,500 lbs). Although, if you're pulling a large trailer or filling up the bed with bags of concrete on a regular basis, you'll appreciate the substantial torque derived from the optional 210-hp, 3.3-L supercharged V6 - 246 lb-ft to be exact. A 170-hp naturally aspirated 3.3-L V6 fills in the gap between the base 4-cylinder and super-charged V6 engines.
