Comfortable Enough For a Good Nap

After putting in a grueling 10 hours at my second job, all I wanted to do was go home. My boyfriend was waiting for me in the parking lot in his car to follow me down the winding highway back to town. As (un)luck would have it, one of my co-workers announced that there was a terrible accident directly in my only path and that there would be no chance the road would open before 4AM.

An unexpected traffic delay in the middle of the night meant a real hands-on test of the Kia Spectra's interior, not to mention a nap. (Photo: Alexandra Straub, Canadian Auto Press)
I obviously didn't have too many options other than driving as far as I could in my current test car, the 2003 Kia Spectra GSX, parking in a lineup of cars, and then waiting... and waiting. By this time it was about 1:45AM and the waiting continued.

After laying down for a few minutes of rest in the backseat I noticed how exceptionally comfortable the GSX is. (Photo: Alexandra Straub, Canadian Auto Press)
Like most fellow travelers would I reclined the front seat down, closed my eyes and fell asleep for a few minutes. Then I moved to the backseat, where I lay down again for a few minutes of rest. All I can say is that this vehicle is exceptionally comfortable to sit in, and even rest in. I was relieved when the road opened again, but a little sad because my sleeping experience in the Spectra was one I'll never forget.

Alongside comfort, what I found to be the Spectra's strongest feature is styling. As Kia points out in their press information, "Spectra's unique 5-door styling looks like a million bucks." Yes, it is a very nicely tailored car, but I think a million dollars is pushing it. Still the 5-door does have a very classy look to it, with an attractive grille, stylishly sculpted headlamps and a swept back hatch that meets large but tastefully designed taillamps as it ends in a sporty little 'trunk.'
