Only in the United States... Pity!

It's a new car brand from Toyota that is aimed at the youth market in the United States, but don't expect to see it in Canadian dealerships any time soon.

Toyota brought out its 2004 Scion xA and xB models to Dearborn, Mich., recently to brief the automotive press of the new brand's sales success in California. The Scion was first unveiled as the Toyota concept ccX vehicle at the 2002 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. A month later, Toyota said at the New York Auto Show that the vehicle was to be the genesis of an entirely new brand, the Japanese automaker's third for the United States.

However, at the moment, Toyota has no plans to introduce Scion into Canada, said F. David Stone, media relations manager. "The car was created specifically for the U.S."

Since then, Scion began selling its first two models, the xA sedan and xB van/sport-utility-like vehicle, in 105 California dealerships on June 9, 2003, and they've been doing very well, said Jim Farley, Scion vice president.

Farley was recently at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, Mich., to brief journalists on Scion and revealed that a third model, a sports-like car will be released next year.
